Who is thought of as the one that sleeps by day and only wakes at night?

The vampire is another nighttime prowler prominent in our folklore.  (See the wikipedia entry “Vampire” for more information.)  Most known for their thirst for blood, vampires are often pondered and sometimes romanticized, most likely due to their immortality.
